A record of the renovation of a
Wooden Drascombe Longboat 'Otter'

30th August 2009. Fitted mast band.

The stays originally were seized to a ring.

On the main mast there were two shrouds each side and two forestays.

The mizzen mast also had stays as it was deck-mounted.

The ring sat on the peg at the top of the mast and the eyes nestled in the grooves.

To fit roller furling (luff tube) I had to fit a mast band. Rather than fill the (large) gap with epoxy I spliced some hardwood to the top.

It took six pieces.

Then I cut a rebate to take the mast band.

Varnished and fitted.
